A Delicious Healthy Snack Recipe: Spicy Chicken Stuffed Rolls

Hi guys, as for today’s recipe I’m with a Healthy Snack idea which is spicy chicken stuffed rolls. The recipe is healthy because whole wheat flour used in here & also it is not deep frying. Delightful snack that stuffed sautéed chicken with vegetables & spices bring such a full of flavor combination. Once you take a bite you will be craving for more, for sure.

As tea time snack, appetizer or even in meals like breakfast or dinner; spicy chicken stuffed rolls are authentic food to be accompanied with. . This easy roll recipe is made using chicken but can be adapted as per your preferences in stuffing ingredients such as vegan or sea food and that would be wonderful.

For about 12 chicken rolls
Ingredients for the dough
  1. Whole wheat flour 2 cup
  2. Instant yeast 1tsp
  3. Sugar 1 ½ tsp
  4. Luke warm milk ½ cup
  5. Melted butter 35g
  6. One large egg
  7. Salt 1tsp

 

  • Note:

If you not familiar with the significant mild taste of whole wheat flour you can replace 1 cup from all-purpose flour.

 

Steps to make the dough of chicken rolls
  1. Activate the yeast first. Add sugar & yeast in a small bowl & pour milk into it, stir well to dissolve sugar. Keep aside for 10 min to form up yeast.
  2. In mixing bowl add in flour, make a well in center. Into that add egg, melted butter & yeast mixture.
  3. Combine all together by wooden spatula, then add the salt in again mix well.
  4. Then get you clean hands into the dough. Transfer the dough into a lightly floured working top knead for 10 min. Dough should be a soft one. (If you are using stand mixture with dough hook attachment; put all ingredients in & process for 5 minutes)
  5. Put the dough again into cleaned & oil greased mixing bowl. Cover it after brushing oil on the surface of dough ball too for about 1 hour to get in double in size.
Spicy chicken stuffing
Ingredients for the filling
  1. Chopped marinated chicken pieces 200g
  2. Chopped onion 1
  3. Chopped curry leaves 2 tbsp
  4. Ginger garlic paste 1 ½ tsp
  5. Chopped carrot ¼ cup
  6. Chopped cabbage ¼ cup
  7. Chopped spring onion ¼ cup
  8. Chopped tomatoes 1 – 2
  9. Chopped capsicum 1 – 2
  10. Vegetable oil 2tbsp
  11. Turmeric ½ tsp
  12. Chilli flakes 1tsp
  13. Black pepper ½ tsp
  14. Salt 1 tsp
  15. Soy sauce 1 tbsp
 Notes:
  • Marinate the small chicken pieces with 1tsp of ginger garlic paste, ½ tsp of salt, ½ tsp of black pepper, 1tsp of coconut vinegar & 1tsp of soy sauce. Coat all chicken pieces well, just about to cover them in spice mixture, set aside for 20 minutes to marinate.
  • Instead of curry leaves you can use any other herbs like rosemary, basil or thyme in here.
  • Set vegetables as per your choice.

Steps to make the stuffing
  1. Heat up a pan over medium flame, add oil in there. Once oil gets heated add marinated chicken & fry them until turn into brown color.
  2. Chopped onion, curry leaves & ginger garlic paste add in next to the mixture. Saute them for 2 -3 minutes until onion become soft & ginger garlic paste turning to golden brown.
  3. Next add chopped vegetables except for spring onions & tomatoes. Sprinkles all spices & soy sauce over it, stir well.
  4. Cook the mixture after covering with a lid for about 2 minutes.
  5. Lastly add spring onion & tomatoes, cook for further 1 minute more after mixing all together.
  6. Do a taste test, add more spice if it required. Let it stuffing to come to room temperature before using.
Note:
  • If you don’t like spicy level of the mixture, simply you can cut the amount of spices in here.
  • Also you can add in ¼ cup of milk in place of soy sauce, mix well. Then make a slurry by dissolving 1tbsp of corn flour in 1 ½ tbsp of water and add to the mixture. Combine all very well until it thicken up. This way you can have creamy chicken stuffing for this Healthy Snack, if you do have kids consider making the stuffing like this; they will love it for sure.

 

Assembling this Healthy Snack; chicken rolls

  1. Get the doubled size dough into flour dusted working top.
  2. Knead for 1 minute & divide into 12 equal portions.
  3. Make small balls from each portion.

 

4. Roll out the dough to have 2 – 3mm thickness in.

5. In the bottom half leaving 1 inch gap add the 1tbsp of stuffing in the center & spread it around a little bit.

6. Start wrapping the roll by pulling off the bottom over the filling to cover it. Then fold the bold edges, roll the dough to the top. Secure the rolled wrap by pinching the edge to the roll gently. In other way around you can wrap too, which is first folding the both edges, then bottom part & rolling it.

7. Prepare all the rolls just like so.

8. Put them in a greased baking pan, cover with a kitchen towel & let it rest for 30 minutes.

9. After 30 minutes egg wash the prepared chicken rolls. If you prefer you can sprinkle top with sesame seeds or chopped coriander.

10. Bake in preheated oven 175°C for about 20 to 25 minutes till they turn into golden brown.

11. Serve while it hot with tomato sauce. Enjoy!

  • Note:

If you want you can place some cheese mozzarella, parmesan or cheddar cheese on the top of stuffing while it’s going to wrap up. That way you can have gorgeous creamier bite out of chicken rolls, since I like it to be spicy I didn’t include any.

 

This recipe of Healthy Snack is incredibly easy, super delicious and very soft in texture wise.
