Silky and Smooth Chocolate Custard Pudding


Hello guys! Today I’m with a Classical Creamy Dessert Recipe with a slightly change, it is Chocolate Custard Pudding. An Eggless recipe that intensified with dark rich flavor & silky smooth texture, instead of custard powder I’m using corn flour in here. Recipe itself very similar in texture like any other custard recipes either with custard powder or eggs but complete opposite in its taste. That follows half settled wobbly texture which I love in this. Moreover as an easy & simple dessert with its iconic yumminess chocolate custard recipe is a popular instant favorite among family & friends of ours.

As you all know now, if you adore the chocolate like I am; this rich, decadent, and intensely chocolaty dessert need to go for your bucket list for sure. And only requires a handful of basic ingredients to prepare it. I would like to conclude by adding some tips, suggestions and variations to the chocolate custard recipe as always. Just follow the detailed simple instructions below and you’ll be rewarded with a wonderfully delicious, velvety, chocolaty dessert.


For about 5 to 6 servings
Ingredients for the Dessert Recipe
  1. Full cream milk 500ml
  2. Sugar 6tbsp
  3. Corn flour 2 ½ tbsp
  4. Cocoa powder 4tbsp
  5. Chopped chocolate 50g (semi sweet or dark chocolate)
  6. To serve: chocolate powder & chopped nuts


Steps for making the Dessert Recipe
  1. At first, in a bowl take corn flour and cocoa powder mix them together. Combine all together with a ¼ cup of milk to form a smooth mixture without no lumps in.


2. Meanwhile in a pan over medium low heat the milk & sugar gets hot.

3. Pour the prepared chocolate mixture into hot milk.

4. Keep the flame on low and stir continuously until the milk boils. You can see mixture turns into smooth and silky thick mixture. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes. If you confident enough cook on high flame it will take anywhere between 7 to 10 minutes.

5. To enhance the flavor add in the chopped chocolate into the boiled pudding mixture. Whisk well to melt all the chocolate in.


6. Transfer the chocolate custard pudding into serving cups.

7. Let it rest for at least 3 hours in the refrigerator to set completely.

8. Garnish the servings with cocoa powder sieving through a sifter and some chopped cashews on the top. Enjoy

  • To enrich the flavor in the pudding you can replace ½ cup of milk with cream.
  • Mentioned corn flour is about just to set, if you want it to be less set use 1 ½ tbsp of corn flour or if you want to set it like a pudding you can use gelatin to have structure.
    • Use 2g of gelatin sheets. (Soak in cold water for about 5 minutes to soften.)
    • Use ½ tsp of gelatin powder. (Bloom it with 2tbsp of water.)
    • little amount of gelatin is enough to make the pudding set on their own serving cups. However if you want to unmold use 1tsp of gelatin powder.
  • You can replace the custard powder (2 ½ tbsp) 25g with corn flour in this recipe.
  • For special occasions I like do more elaborate compassion on to this classic chocolate custard pudding by making a pudding parfait with my favorite cookies layer on the bottom & then layer with pudding & finishing off with some whipped cream, and chocolate shavings. That way there is no way the dessert going to deny by anyone at all, it have the looks & taste, really so good. Do try in that way also.
  • For garnishing on the chocolate powder dust you can also palace roasted marshmallows, sprinkle, desiccated coconuts or fresh fruit slices.



Now comes the fun part, like really. Do you want to have more luscious texture from this simple recipe use these additional parts in. it is well worth because classic dessert will be turn into a gorgeous Dessert Recipe like there are no other way in just like a fancier treat. Secret is using both corn flour and egg yolks to the recipe, it gives the best silky, thick texture on dessert. I made it once and it is pure heaven. In here I will include those additional steps in for the same quantity as the recipe calls for.

You will need in addition to the other ingredients of this recipe;

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tsp of Chocolate Extract or Vanilla Extract


  1. To start, place two egg yolks into a bowl and whisk for about 60 seconds, until the yolks lighten in color and thicken to a frothy, foamy texture.
  2. Into that add in corn flour and ½ cup of milk. Whisk until fully combined, then set aside.
  3. In a pan, combine sugar, cocoa powder and milk, let the milk to become hot not boiling over.
  4. Pour the egg & corn flour mixture into hot milk. Let milk to come to boil & thicken very well.
  5. Then remove the pudding from the heat and stir in chocolate or vanilla extract for extra flavor, I also add 1tbsp of coffee to pudding it totally optional.
  6. Transfer the pudding into serving cups & rest in refrigerator for at least 3 hours to set.
  7. Enjoy with your favorite toppings.


Try to experiment the chocolate custard over chocolate sponge or chocolate cake that will taste great as they saying. I still haven’t try that & it in my bucket list to do; please comment below to share if you have tips & tricks.

You can make these well ahead in advance and store it in the refrigerator for a minimum of 1 week. This way, you can plan ahead in advance and serve it whenever you need, but it’s recommended to make fresh to get best flavor up.
